Big Hollywood: Conservative and Libertarian Commentary on Celebrity and Film
By

We often think the coarseness and emphasis on teen culture in film highlights – if not causes – the increasing coarseness of our society, but it doesn’t mean we don’t still enjoy the cinema and respect it’s power to move people. We’ve heard social conservatives argue that we should stay away from movie theaters and, while we sympathize, we can’t fully agree that turning our backs on Hollywood is the best way to respond.
On the contrary, we believe that if conservatives and libertarians want to continue to compete as a national political and cultural movement, they can’t really drop out of modern pop art and filmmaking no matter how bad much of it becomes. It’s too important and too effective a means of communication to abandon. And just as importantly, too many of us enjoy movies too much to stay away from the theaters.
For those who aren’t ready to simply write Hollywood off into the column of losses, Breitbart’s Big Hollywood blog is a great place to find a few reasonable dissenting voices from the Left Coast and the film industry. It’s important and fun just to notice that these voices exist within the cacophony of left-wing nonsense we typically hear from the Hollywood “elite.” However, we think that the posting they do is even more important because it shows that conservatives and libertarians can participate in an insightful and meaningful way in the discussion of film and celebrity in America.
