C.S. Lewis’ Screwtape Letters: Audio Dramatization
ByI was perusing James Miller’s site and happened upon a comment he made regarding an old-time radio show style dramatization of C.S. Lewis’ The Screwtape Letters.
If you aren’t familiar with The Screwtape Letters, it is the fictional — we suppose — correspondence between an older more experienced demon to his younger cousin, who is looking for guidance in how best to turn human weakness to his advantage in capturing souls for Satan.
Lewis’s books, Abolition of Man and Mere Christianity are incredibly insightful, but The Screwtape Letters is thoughtful and creative in a slightly different way that seems to lend itself to audio adaptation particularly well. Don’t get us wrong, the audio presentation isn’t necessary to enjoy this classic text. Just pick the short book up and you’ll be captivated and finished before you know it. However, I’m willing to bet that the dramatization adds a different layer of meaning for most people and a sense of drama. Certainly worth a look if you searching for gifts for any culture warriors, Christians, or C.S. Lewis collectors this Christmas. The only downsides are (1) the price is a little steep for much of the target audience and (2) it might tempt people to introduce The Screwtape Letters to young children when neither the book nor the audio dramatization is appropriate for younger people.
An absolutely fabulous book. C.S. Lewis was a genius. I loved the Screwtape Letters….thanks for this find.
