The Pig Book: An Annual Update on Government Waste
ByEvery year the Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) publish a Congressional “Pig Book” Summary that profiles the most egregious examples of the practice of “earmarking.” This year the Pig Book has revealed 10,160 earmarks worth about $19.6 billion dollars. That’s a considerable sum considering in the presidential debates last fall both the Republican candidate and the Democratic candidate decried the practice of earmarking and vowed to reduce or eliminate it.
In high school debate, we had a paper copy of the Pig Book tucked away in our box just in case someone dared challenge our assertions about the outrageousness of earmarks. Today, you can get a full summary of the book’s findings online for free by clicking the thumbnail below.
