Youth for Western Civilization: College Cultural Warriors 2.0

Yesterday, we highlighted Young Americans for Freedom. Today, we thought we’d provide an entry for a new conservative organization that is recently capturing headlines and finding a place on college campuses: Youth for Western Civilization.

Youth for Western Civilization appears to be a group of culture warriors on college campuses. These young men and women are exploring some of the most controversial views on the Right in the tradition of Sam Francis, Pat Buchanan, and the VDare crowd.

If we were advising young conservatives interested in exploring politics on a college campus, we might warn them that culture is frequently confused with race and that comparative discussions of culture frequently have an unintentionally divisive effect. These are vitally important issues that need to be discussed, but young people should be aware that even with every effort to be sensitive and precise, there is still a good chance of that they will be personally branded a racist, bigot, or ethnocentrist.

In short, the young men and women of Youth for Western Civilization appear to be putting their reputations on the line to defend Western Civ. We think Russel Kirk and Alan Bloom might be just be pleased.
