Antelope Valley and Studio City Tea Parties

By Brandon Martin

On Saturday, we attended the Antelope Valley and Studio City Tea Parties.  The two events were distinctly different in message and style.  Antelope Valley was a large special event with  multiple speakers including local politicians like George Runner; it focused on tax-and-spend issues and was patriotic in its style and relatively tempered in its anger.  On the other hand, the Studio City event was a traditional street corner protest that focused primarily on the argument that Obama should provide his original birth certificate in order to prove his eligibility to serve as president.

While we acknowledge that this might seem odd coming from a website that features a burning obama symbol next to its logo, we have to question whether its a good idea for the tea party movement to focus on anti-Obama issues beyond the trend towards socialism and excessive taxing and spending.  It seems too partisan and that seems to hurt credibility.  Nevertheless, we were impressed by the passion and fervor of both crowds and enjoyed meeting new friends.
