ByWe believe people are happier and the modes of production more efficient if people spend with discernment and save responsibly as a matter of cultural norm or habit. They are better able to deal with life’s ups and downs, more able to think and act independently, and more likely to respect the meaningful relationship between money and the work that created it.
That’s why we think the tension between a culture of savings and the technology of spending is almost always a hot topic and something worth following… and why we still have trouble believing that the recently launched website, BillMyParents.com, isn’t some kind of parody or joke.
That’s right, in case your “tweener” hasn’t introduced you to the service, yet, BillMyParents.com is a brand-new way to allow children to shop online and have parents later electronically approve funding. Parents still get veto power over whether their credit card is charged, but they don’t have to actually talk with their children about shopping, spending, saving, or anything else for that matter. BillMyParents.com promises to introduce the addiction of online-shopping at a very young age and streamline the parenting process.
We think BillMyParents might just be successful, but the developer who introduces a piggy-bank, online savings-oriented system for children and parents to work on together interactively will be doing his or her young clients a much better service.
