Facebook Vanity URLS
ByMany of our visitors cross-market their conservative blogs via Facebook or host some form of conservative or libertarian presence on the venerable social media site.
There are certainly benefits to this, but search engine optimization of Facebook pages has been difficult because the URL assigned by Facebook identifying the page is a series of seemingly random numeric characters and, thus, does not include searchable keywords like the page owner’s user name.
That will change this weekend when Facebook begins assigning vanity URLs. Per Facebook policy, the URLS will not be transferable, so there will be little use in cybersquatting for investment or resale profiteering. However, there may be efforts from the Left to secure promising conservative and libertarian keywords simply to deny our team use of those keywords.
The URLS will be allocated on a first-come-first serve basis beginning at 12:01 a.m. EDT on Saturday, June 13 at http://www.facebook.com/username/.
Obviously, we aren’t suggesting that folks setup dummy accounts and start hoarding names that would be valuable to our antagonists on the Left. That would be underhanded. However, if you do have a valuable keyword or name you’d like to secure for yourself and your online advocacy efforts, you can learn more here.
