PreventTruthDecay.com: A Mock Headline Game for Conservatives Who Still Read the News…

By Brandon Martin

Sometimes an insightful joke gets at the truth better than a lengthy lecture.  College students who’ve enjoyed The Onion for years have insisted so, and so have longtime fans of PreventTruthDecay.com

The team at PreventTruthDecay.com has been revealing “the funny side of horribly depressing news” since 2002.  Their slant is conservative and their methodology is worth taking a look at.  Specifically, by taking advantage of twitter and email in order to make things more interactive, their daily collection of spoof headlines has become a game with site visitors participating.

Here’s the still-too-hard-to-find quote and email-a-headline link from their site:

JOIN THE EFFORT: Join PTD’s army of sense-of-humored, open-minded conservative activists. Contribute to Prevent Truth Decay Conservative satire news headlines. Hear news, figure out what makes it funny, submit it here.

We’d like to see Digg-style submission and user voting on the mock headlines that users contribute… and we’d like to see a little less sour grapes over Kobe single-handedly dominating the Orlando Magic. Aside from that, we have to give kudos to the team for their endless creativity. It’s actually fun to go back and read the archives — sometime’s the humor seems more on-the-mark after a little time has passed and a little perspective has been gained.
