The Problem with Nitpicking…
BySometimes, you need to be a little more choosy when picking your battles. By way of example, we noticed today that many conservative and libertarian commentators, both online and offline, are still arguing that the President is a public embarrasment because he bowed for the Saudi King when he shouldn’t have and failed to bow for the Queen of England when he should have. We don’t mind the speculation about Obama’s mindset when it comes to Islamic leaders, but we wonder if there aren’t more important observations that can be made about what the president has been up to on the policy front.
Why should conservatives and libertarians who are concerned about the state of affairs under Obama be contributing to the fascination with his public persona by talking about Carla Bruni’s kiss when the policy threats from Obama and the Democratic congress are more real, important, and interesting?
True… and good points.
One suspects nitpicking is just therapy. The genuinely terrifying part of Obama’s election is that he will do what he said he’d do… One has to laugh a little.
This does point to a more serious matter of media bias – had GW Bush done anything like this, he’d be burned at the stake. The double standard does need to be confronted and humor is one of the best ways. Perhaps Obama can respond in ‘Austrian.’
