Facebook Wonder Girl Drafts a Candidate: Melissa Ward of “Save Mr. Latham” Fame is Drafting Her Local Radio Talk Show Host to Run for the House of Representatives
ByEarlier this year, Melissa Ward founded a facebook group to rally the nation in support of a first year history teacher at her high school after the school administration and local school board attempted to fire him because of his conservative politics.
Ward’s knack for new media saved “Mr. Latham” his teaching job and completely embarrased the adminstrators and school board at a national level after major news outlets including Fox News Channel picked up the story.
According to Melissa, however, the first journalist to pick up the story of Mr. Latham’s unfair firing was a local radio talk show host named Darla Jaye. Now, Melisa is launching a campaign on Facebook to support Darla’s potential run for the House of Representatives. Here’s a snippit of Melissa’s recent message announcing the drive to support Darla Jaye:
“Most of you don’t live in Kansas, but we have Congressman Dennis Moore as our represenative, for the 3rd District.
There is a group started to encourage a local radio host, Darla Jaye, to run against him. Draft Darla is created to show her that people do want her to run for US House of Represenatives. A lot of people are supporting her in the KC area; however, she says there needs to be 2,000 members for her to seriously consider it.
Darla Jaye is a radio talk host in the Kansas City area. Darla is on facebook, you can look her up and her website is http://www.kmbz.com/pages/2589230.php?. She was the first news orgainization, either radio or local to run the Mr. Latham story.
Darla is very outspoken against President Obama’s actions: spending, not listening to the people and Health Care Forum. Dennis Moore is a democract who votes along party ideology. This summer, he never once, had a Health Care Forum when he was repeatedly asked for one. We need to get him out of office.
Please help Kansas and when you need help getting a true conservative elected, I will help you. Fight this fight with me!
If you could please join the group, Draft Darla, to show her that there are people who want normal, everyday citizens to run for office. Moreover, that normal person can run for office and do make a difference. Not all politicans have to millionaires. This is still a goverment that is “for the people, by the people and for the people.”
Thank you,
Sincerly,
Melissa Ward”
The cynic in me says that this is a talk radio personality using a young girl for promotion, but there’s also an optimist in me that can’t help but point out how so many of the successful grassroots conservative efforts of the last year have started with a similarly innocent, almost naive tone. Melissa writes in a straightforward and sincere fashion and it is very difficult to resist. We don’t know anything about Darla and we don’t know whether another more promising Republican is considering a run for the seat or whether the seat is even winnable, at all… but we joined the Draft Darla Facebook group, anyway!
Great work, Melissa. Online activists who think they need to get fancier and slicker, might just want to check out your sincerity and your success first.
